4th Annual "Love Fore A Cure" CRD Golf Tournament raises over $600,000 to advance mission

The 4th Annual CRD Golf Tournament, themed “Love Fore A Cure”, in Branford, CT raised over $600,000 and had over 300 people in attendance with all proceeds going to Cure Rare Disease! Stephanie and Jesse Herzog  hosted the event at the Pine Orchard Yacht and Country Club. The Herzog’s son, Max, has Duchenne muscular dystrophy and they are fierce advocates for advancing treatments for the disease.

The event included tennis, pickleball & golf tournaments, as well as a dinner cruise with a live auction and live music. It is events like this that make the work we do possible and we are grateful to the Herzog family and the incredible Shoreline Community for putting on another “hole in one” event.

Marcus Luttrell, motivational speaker and best-selling author of Lone Survivor, was the special guest for the evening. He is an American hero and part of the most decorated Navy Seal team in history. In his remarks to guests, Marcus noted the importance of supporting those who are fighting tough battles, saying simply, “you need to show up.” And that’s exactly what Shoreline Community continues to do for all boys fighting Duchenne muscular dystrophy!

Stephanie Herzog also gave an inspirational speech to the guests. Below is an excerpt of the speech that encompasses the spirit of the day:

“For those of you who KNOW…this event is about WAY more than raising money for our family’s mission and all of the new boys in our life…For starters, it’s about the feeling in this room right now. Can you feel it? I can. That, ladies & gentlemen, is LOVE, it's a whole helluva lotta LOVE.

Heroes require courage, lots of it. Courage, strength, perseverance… and a fight deep down in the soul that won’t let you fail. Max has that. Terry has that. Fritz has that. And our Conner has it, too. Our boys have strength and courage beyond my wildest dreams. I’m beaming with pride for them as much as our moms & dads fighting the good fight.

One thing I didn’t expect to take away from the [Marcus Luttrell] movie, that I did….the last thing, but most important-LOVE. You battled and fought with endless courage, but in the end, it was LOVE that saved you. That’s something we’re banking on too.

God bless our boys, God bless you all.”
